European Health Care Information and Communication Platform - Border Region

This project is included in the INTERREG III project "Cross Border Health Care in the Euregion Meuse Rhine". It aims at informing patients and doctors about the growing possibilities for cross border health care in the EMR (offer, waiting lists, reimbursement systems and quality of health care). GPS, specialists and institutions need to know what treatment has been provided abroad, what they are expected to do at the return of the patient to advise well their patients. An interactive information system will be built and will be the portal site of the Euregional health care in the EMR.

European health risk monitoring

The objective of the project is to contribute to the European community health monitoring system by planning indicators and mechanisms for coordinated standardized national population risk factor surveys, based on the extensive experience in the MONICA and CINDI projects. Such surveys will gather original core information on major chronic disease risk factors, related behaviours and determinants, in order to serve and evaluate disease prevention and health promotion efforts in the countries and on European level. European project AIDS and mobility

The general aims of the European Project AIDS & Mobility are: - to highlight and respond to the specific needs of migrants, ethnic minorities and other mobile groups, with regard to HIV/AIDS and related issues, encouraging appropriate policies and participation of the target groups. - to facilitate and encourage collaboration and exchange between governmental, non-governmental and community-based organisations at national and European level. Feasibility study for joint service provision - Border region

This project is funded by CAWT "Cooperation and Working Together". It aims at jointly developing good practices and cooperative in case of major accident in 4 areas: cardiac catheterisation, oral and maxillo facial surgery, neo-natal ICU services, rehabilitation services for patients with brain surgery. Professional networks have been established. Nowadays the 2 hospitals have regular contacts and senior managers meet regularly for the implementation of common projects.

Fridolfing emergency doctors community - Border region

The Fridolfing ambulance covers the region Rupertigau (Germany) and Oberösterreich (Austria) near the border and provides treatment of patients and transport assistance for emergency and catastrophes. German emergency doctors are treating patients across the border with paramedics from Austria. Co-operation between the rescue posts of Fridolfing and Riedersbach has been developed.This project is supported by local health insurance funds.

GAP (Implementation phase of the European Gay Aids Prevention)

To implement a research and development programme on the European level which ameliorates HIV prevention targeting men who have sex with men. This will be done by: implementing 4 pilot projects: prevention targeting young gay men, dealing with the influence of serostatus on prevention, developing effective prevention targeting gay tourists and developing models of good practice of collaboration between health authorities and commercial gay venues. Harvesting of organs from Maltese donors by Italian teams of surgeons

The transplant program in Malta includes cornea, kidney and heart transplant. Malta does not have the appropriate facilities for liver transplant and there is sometimes no candidates for heart transplant. In such circumstances, teams of Italian surgeons come to Malta. The matching between donors with recipients (from Italy or Malta) is coordinated by the Policlinico Umberto I. This is also extensively used for the local kidney transplant. Since 1988, there has been more donors from Malta to Italian recipients than the contrary.

Health indicators for monitoring cancer in Europe

The aims of the project are : - To develop a comprehensive list of health indicators useful for monitoring cancer in the countries of the European Union. The list will make it posible to monitor and evaluate the activities of the Member States in the areas of cancer management and control, in terms of cancer burden, prevention activity, standards of care, and cure rates. The list will include variables on the prevalence of risk factors ; pre-clinic acticity ; cancer occurrence ; clinical follow-up ; cancer recurrences ; patient survival ; diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ; effectiveness of cancer care ; outcome and care prevalence. The list will include a huge set of socio-economic, demographic health-related variables that will be useful in controlling cancer and improving the life expectancy of cancer patients. - To indicate standardised methods for collecting, checking and validating tha data and to find methods, procedures and techniques for analysing the results and making them available. - To incorporate this proposed list into a larger comprehensive surveillance list, prepared for the European Union Health Monitoring Programme. Health promotion 2001: 2nd conference of the european network for health promoting schools

The general aims of the project are: - to organise the 2nd conference of the European Network of Health Promoting Schools. - to encourage collaboration and exchange of practice in the area of school health promotion in Europe, with specific reference to curriculum development and teacher training. - to develop an effective partnership between the health and the education sectors for the implementation of health promotion in a school setting in the Member States, the EEA states and the CEE/NIS states. - to formulate specific recommendations for the future development of health promotion in a school setting in Europe.
