This project is included in the INTERREG III project "Cross border Health care in the Euregio Meuse Rhine". This co-operation includes patient care (especially surgical treatments and diagnostic imaging procedures for which waiting lists exist in the AZM).

Co-operation between the hospital of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and four Belgian hospitals - Border Region

The Dutch health care insurance company OZ refers their patients to hospitals in Belgium to reduce the existing waiting lists. Co-operation between the hospitals on both sides of the border has been developed for the following treatments, operations and activities: - The sharing of the emergency helicopter of the AZ Brugge - Oral surgeons from the AZ Brugge operate on Dutch patients in the hospital of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen - Dutch cardiologists work in the UZ Gent to help reducing the waiting lists in the hospital of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen - Exchange of students - Investigation of the costs pro diagnosis

Co-operation in the field of oncology (consultations, networking and radiotherapy) - Border Region

Co-operation has started in the field of oncology. This includes transfer of diagnostics to the hospital of Basel, radiotherapy, network for tumours. Communication across the border has improved and partners have optimised their performance.

Co-operation of centres for genetic metabolic diseases - Border Region

This project is included in the INTERREG III project "Cross border Health Care in the Euregion of Meuse Rhine". In the Euregion Meuse-Rhine there are 5 university centres for diagnosis and treatment of rare genetic metabolic diseases. In a 1st phase, the centres presented their diagnostic capacity, their expertise and specific interest. In a 2nd one, the centres investigate how their co-operation can lead to a synergy, which will benefit to all the patients of the Euregion.

Co-operation of university hospitals in top clinical pathologies - Border Region

This project is included in the INTERREG III project 'Cross border Health Care in the Euregion Meuse Rhine'. In the future none of the 3 partners will be able to offer all of the latest medical technologies at all times and in full width, or only at very high cost. Certain top technologies demand a critical size of the structure to be efficient. At present the AZM refers patients for paediatric heart catheterisation/ cardiac surgery, PET scan, Gamma Knife and certain maxillo-facialoperations to Aachen. Electrostimulation of bladder and certain allogenic bone marrow transplantations may be referred from Aachen to AEM. This co-operation is supported by insurers and authorities. Another option is the establishment of a Euregional centre for burns (with special facilities for children in Maastricht and for adults in Liège and Aachen).

Co-operation on medico-technique and sport sciences - Border Region

This co-operation aims at sharing common knowledge, developping a system of measurement of the muscle performance and installing a measurement unit for movement analysis in Vienna in order to rehabilitate patients for orthopaedical or neurological accidents.

Comparison of Disease Management, Programs for the chronically ill - Border Region

This project is included in the Interreg III project "Cross border Health care in the Euregion Meuse Rhine". In this project, the partners study the health policies and the Disease Programs in certain chronic diseases from the diagnosis to the chronic management in the 3 countries of the Euregion. First it will focus on diabetes and breast cancer. The results will be available on the Euregional Health care website developed by the EMR network.

CONCERT (Co-operation in Oncological Education, Research and Treatment) - Border Region

A decade ago these centres had established a foundation for cross border oncological ce-operation called CONCERT.This project is included in the INTERREG III project "Cross border Health Care in the Euregion Meuse Rhin". - The Universitätsklinikum Aachen develops a project on breast screening, aiming at the rapid implementation of breast-screening according to the European guidelines, the formation of a euregional expert group and information and training provided for professionals participating in screening activities. - The CHU de Liège is setting up a euregional tumor-tissue bank -The Academisch Ziekenhuis Maastricht will develop 'Euregional Teledermato-oncology', which allows the medical specialists to use the expertise of the neighbouring centres in the diagnosis and treatment of dermato-oncological disease.

Cooperation in neurosurgery, bypass operations and blood bank - Border Region

Patients from the local hospital Vinzentinum are referred to the Landeskrankenhaus of Salzburg for neurosurgery and bypass operations. Co-operation has also been established for the blood bank.
