healthregio
The “healthregio” project is implemented under INTERREG III A, the external border programmes of the European Union. A sound data basis, concepts and strategies are being prepared that will allow for optimising the healthcare service sector in the border regions of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. “Healthregio” provides policy makers and economic decision makers with a sound basis for successfully tackling this phase of radical change. Joint activities safeguard the favourable development of the health sector in the long term. Priorities: - Legislative changes and need for progress in national systems - Comparable statistical data on the region - Mobility of patients & health professionals - Education and skills development for health professionals

ISS DATA - Maintenance, Development and Promotion of the ISS Hospital Survey in the current and enlarged EU
The project aims to improve information and knowledge for the development of public health by proper data-collection for the ISS (Injury Surveillance System) in the current and enlarged EU. Objectives: Maintenance (to ensure proper data-collection for the ISS as a continuation and further development of the IPP status (Injury Prevention Program 1999-2003)), Development (to extend the ISS survey to all injuries, including intentional injuries), Promotion (to expand the ISS survey to as many old and new Member Stares as possible) Outcomes: ISS databases 2003 and 2004 uploaded for all participating MS, Online EU ISS Standard Reports, Evaluation report etc. Obstacles: suboptimal data quality and the lack of incidence rates, limited scope (only home and leisure injuries), declining Member State participation Total cost 1.865.494,00 € Subsidy from the Commission 1.119.296,00 €
eHID - Electronic Medical Records for Health Indicator Data
The project aims to use data collected in emr during operational routines in primary care, to provide data on four health indicator conditions (the incidence and prevalence of diabetes, the prevalence of ischaemic heart disease and the burden of mental illness presented to primary care). It moves the EU ‘health monitoring programme’ forward from the theoretical consideration of health indicators to the delivery of relevant data. The project brings together practice networks willing to provide data from emr for epidemiological purposes at no additional cost for data capture Objectives:• Provision of data (and interpretation commentary) derived from electronic records (emr) • To demonstrate continuity by providing separate data in two twelve month periods. • To identify and disseminate information to appropriate professional groups on optimum recording practice for the use of emr to provide prevalence and incidence data. Hospital (Activity) Data Project 2
The overall objective of HDP2 is to produce an internationally comparable hospital activity data set for Europe. HDP2 will extend the methodology to new areas of hospital activity data, to new Members States, to new variables (e.g. to facilitate the monitoring of patient mobility, to facilitate subnational data anaysis) Closely co-operate with other work being carried out in this area e.g. Eurostat development of minimum hospital data set, ECHI2, High Level Reflection Process on patient mobility Objectives: Improve the comparability of statistics, Increase the scope of data collected, include new MS, improve access to and use of data, further extension; Total cost 1.293.910,03 € Subsidy from the Commission 1.033.657,64 €
International conference "Challenges of delivering health in the enlarged Europe - Experience and perspectives from Member States and accession countries
The project deals with the organization of an international conference in Bulgaria (preparation, realisation, Conclusion and Publishing) examinating following issues: Patient mobility and Quality of health services, Continuous health education and accreditation, Pharmaceutical policy – legislation, public health dimension., Health status and health determinants, Investing in health. Objectives: present the new challenges and dimensions for the EU health policy, discuss the prospects of neighbour countries – Balkan region, creating a network of experts and a data base, Total cost 150.784,40 € Subsidy from the Commission 120.184,40 €
S.IM.PAT.IE - Safety Improvement For Patients In Europe
The project aims to facilitate free movement of people and services by developing EU-wide commonality and transparency in methodology on patient safety in healthcare institutions. A data base with standardised format will be developed which is sustainable i.e. has the potential to be updated regularly and cheaply. Data for benchmarking good practice will be an additional output. In parallel a working group of experts will develop a common vocabulary, outcome indicators and internal and external instruments for improvement in PS, based on a CoE framework. A third work stream will utilise material from the other two to develop a consensus approach to health strategy in PS. The final work stream concentrates on dissemination using established professional, institutional and patient networks. Total cost 666.666 € Subsidy from the Commission 400.000 €
HIA-NMAC - Health Impact Assessment In New Member States And Pre-Accession Countries
The project aims to build on the existing experience from current EU countries and other developed countries as users of HIA methodology and collect information on experience form acceding and candidate countries. It aims to consolidate existing institutions and knowledge into one major network of collaborators by conduct of capacity building exercises, pilot studies, methodological development and implementation exercise. Objectives: Consolidate HIA networks in Eastern Europe; Strengthen HIA capacity in acceding and candidate countries; Design, initiate, pilot and carry out parallel case studies in HIA of various sectors; Progress methodology of incorporating socio-economic health determinants into HIA; Develop guidelines to introduce HIA on local level Total cost 1.056.860,24 € Subsidy from the Commission 739.802,18 €
