World Transplant Games
Nancy will receive the 14th world Transplant Games between the 19th and the 27th of July 2003. The University Hospital of Nancy is charged of seting up a medical forum aimed at showing people the goals of tranplantations. Moreover, it has to ensure the medical cover during this week on the competition's stadiums and on the events' places. In order to achieve these two objectives, the University Hospital of Nancy has tied up strongs links with 2 German hospitals (Homburg, Karlsruhe) and one italian hospital (Monza). Those hospitals will participate for: - the medical forum : they will assume one stand/hospital to show their transplantation's activity and to explain to the public the transplantation's law in these european countries; furthermore, they'll take part in the 2 debates evenings in the Congress Palace of Nancy to present the point of view in Germany and Italy concerning on the one hand the ostacles wich hamper the organ donation, on the other hand, the new transplantations' technics and the way of life of transplanted persons - the medical security : german and italian emergency cars and crews will complete the "SAMU" vehicles and teams of Nancy worldtransplantgames@nancy2003.com
"Zorg voor zorg", Taking care of care (Quality circle of hospitals) Border Region
This project is included in the INTERREG III project "Cross border Health Care in the Euregion Meuse Rhine". It aims at improving the quality of health care and the conditions of work for nursing staff. 11 hospitals are taking part of this project, each of them focusing on a particular issue.The institutions (under the control of the 'Flemish Centre for Quality Care') develop audits, evaluations, certifications and share their experience through recommendations. It will become a "knowledge centre" of best practice for the Benelux. By the end of 2003, the 1st results will be presented in the Euregional Quality Symposium. The project is co-ordinated by St Nikolaus Hospital in Eupen.
Administration of health care services in border regions of Valka and Valga
Valga-Valka is a twin city on the border (Valga on the Estonian side and Valka on the Latvian side). The project will find out the possibilities of providing health care for the whole region. Valga hospital is a modern hospital, which can give medical services to the inhabitants of Valka as well. The co-operation will include emergency services, shared equipment, logistic activities and medical care in all main specialities. This project is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Agreement for the referral of patients to emergency and intensive care units - Border Region
The Hospital Santa Luzia has basic medical and emergency facilities. In case of serious medical problem, the relevant Portuguese hospital is located in Lisbon (220km away), whereas the the University hospital of Badajoz (Spain) is only 11 km away, with a polyvalent emergency service. In the Portuguese side, there is a lack of medical facilities. This project is aimed at providing medical emergency in case of accident, cardiovascular emergencies or critical situations in Santa Luzia. the formal convention was signed in 2002. Santa Luzia also uses the medical ambulances of Estremadura Emergency Centre (Spain) and Portuguese professionals are trained in Spain.
