UNESCO
Students: nationals of member states and associates of UNESCO
Grant-awarding organization: NGO and Youth associations
Study areas: education, sciences and technology, social and human sciences, culture, communication; mostly in touch with the promotion of the economic and social development
Grant duration: up to 9 months
Application details: candidature must be presented by the national authorities appointed by the governments of the member states of Unesco (generally, the national commission for Unesco or competent ministry in the field of study chosen). Candidatures privately presented cannot be considered.

Observations: WHO does not have a scholarship or grant programme as such, however you can consult the web site of the WHO Regional Office where your country is a Member State. The regional offices have some fellowship and scholarship programmes which are carried out in cooperation with the ministries of health in countries.

Fulbright offers various types of scholarships for all individuals, offering opportunities not only for college and university faculty and administrators, but also professionals from business and government, as well as artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholarships and many others.

Manfred Wörner Essay Awards (NATO)
Students: citizens of the EAPC countries

Level: University
Grant duration: unique price; not renewable for 5 years
Eligibility:
- To be academics, researchers and writers from both NATO and Partner countries
- To be between 20 and 35
- To be citizen of the EAPC countries and not employed by NATO nor working at the NATO Headquarters or at a NATO Agency at the time of submitting your essay
Grant amount: € 5,000 for the best essay

Commonwealth (Commonwealth citizens)
Students: Commonwealth citizens and British protected persons permanently resident in any Commonwealth country other than the United Kingdom
Grant-awarding organization: Commonwealth member governments
Study areas: unrestricted subjects, but for developing countries applications should clearly be related to the future social and economic development of their home country
Level: postgraduate study
Grant duration: maximum of 36 months
Eligibility:
- General scholarships are open to Commonwealth citizens and British protected persons permanently resident in any Commonwealth country other than the United Kingdom
- Awards are for postgraduate study, with the exception of applicants from the Falkland Islands, Maldives, Seychelles and St Helena, who may also apply for undergraduate courses
- Candidates for postgraduate study should hold an upper second class degree or equivalent
- Applications must be submitted by a CSFP nominating body. These include national agencies in participating countries, a number of universities in developing countries and a small number of other organisations. From 2006 entry, General Scholarships will incorporate the former Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholarships: view the list of universities and inter-university bodies invited to nominate candidates for 2006 entry. Please note that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK cannot consider or acknowledge applications from unsolicited sources
Grant amount: it includes university fees, scholar's return travel, book allowance, apparatus, approved study travel, personal maintenance (plus allowances, where applicable, for spouses and children)
Application details: applications must be made in the first instance to the Commonwealth Scholarship agency in the country in which the applicant has his/her permanent home
Application deadline: December 31 in the year preceding the award being taken up
